Aligning Job Skill and Workforce Resources


The local board in northeast Oklahoma operates under the provisions of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA or The Opportunity Act). Key partners of The Opportunity Act initiative include Economic Development, Education and Workforce. The Northeast Workforce Development Board is responsible for hosting community conversations to better align workforce resources, economic development and education to provide business and industry with solutions that address job skills shortage and provide a steady pipeline of skilled labor.
 

The Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act


The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA or The Opportunity Act), a nationwide workforce development initiative funded through the Department of Labor, was created to provide state and local areas the flexibility to collaborate across systems in an effort to better address the employment and job skill needs of current employees, jobseekers, and employers.
 

WIOA Accomplishes This By:


  1. Prescribing a stronger alignment of the workforce, education, and economic development systems

  2. Improving the structure and delivery system to assist America’s workers in achieving a family-sustaining wage while providing America’s employers with the skilled workers they need to compete on a global level


NEWDB Mission/Vision Statement


Mission: To serve as the driver of social and economic change in northeast Oklahoma.


Vision: Through collaborative efforts among the workforce system, economic development, and education, the Northeast Workforce Board serves as the driver of social and economic change in northeast Oklahoma. The Northeast Workforce Board is the convener and collaborator charged with hosting community conversations to better align workforce resources.


The Northeast Workforce Board is charged with improving the structure and delivery in the system to assist Oklahoma workers in achieving a family-sustaining wage while providing Oklahoma businesses and industry with the skilled workers they need to compete on a global level.
